Action Outdoors

A £1 million project to create a vibrant activity centre on the bank of the Union Canal in Falkirk. The centre offers a range of exciting outdoor activities which make full use of the canal and its surrounding environment providing opportunities for young people to develop new skills and improve their lifestyle. Canal Community Liaison Officer

The Waterways Trust Scotland has appointed Steven Cole to encourage more people to make use of the Forth & Clyde Canal in Glasgow and West Dunbartonshire and its surrounding environment. [More]

Dalriada

The £3 million Dalriada Project aims to realise and maximise the potential of the area's natural and cultural heritage assets for the long-term benefit of residents and visitors to Mid-Argyll. The Waterways Trust Scotland is leading the Community History element of this scheme. [More]

Feet First

Feet First is a free guided walking programme developed by The Waterways Trust Scotland. This healthy living programme has been designed especially to promote and encourage walking as a healthy, educational and enjoyable form of exercise for people of all ages. Green Action

The Trust is raising funds for a new environmental and tourism volunteer programme based at the Action Outdoors Centre in Falkirk to enable young people in the area to develop new skills and gain qualifications, improving their employment prospects. [More]

Maryhill Lighting Project

As part of the regeneration of Maryhill in Glasgow, The Waterways Trust Scotland, working with Impact Arts and Collective Architecture, has developed a project to involve young people in improving the environment at Maryhill Locks on the Forth & Clyde Canal. [More]

Scents & Sensitivities Phase II

Continuing this successful environmental improvement project at Auchinstarry Basin on the Forth & Clyde Canal, the Trust is now raising £448,000 to enhance the remaining area at the basin to provide a stimulating visitor experience. [More]

Soon Cut, Auchinstarry Basin

The Trust has raised £10,000 to create a safe walking route from Auchinstarry to Croy, away from the main road to enable people from the local community to visit the canal and basin safely. [More]

Team building with the Royal Bank of Scotland

The Waterways Trust Scotland is working with staff from the Royal Bank of Scotland on a series of team building events which are helping to transform sections of the Lowland Canals. [More]

Towpath Tidy events

As part of British Waterways’ annual canal clean up initiative, this year the Trust will be holding a ‘Towpath Tidy Week’ along the Forth & Clyde and Union Canals. Working with volunteers from the local community and schools, the week-long seriese of events will help to improve the canalside environment and encourage people to get more involved with their local waterway. Twecharwood

Through a Trust-led project a group of young people in Twechar in East Dunbartonshire, are learning the finer points of film making as they create a documentary of the history of their community, its links with the Forth & Clyde Canal and how this waterway is continuing to shape the future of the village. WOW Safety Education Programme

In conjunction with community arts group, Impact Arts, The Waterways Trust Scotland has developed an innovative water-safety education programme to teach young children how to be safe by canals and rivers. [More]

Supporter event 2009

Adrift on the Forth & Clyde Canal – supporters of the Trust enjoyed a boat trip along the Forth & Clyde Canal from Auchinstarry to Wyndford at the end of March. Award-winning author Nick Thorpe entertained the group with his amusing recollections of his adventures on a 25,000 mile boat-hopping odyssey through Scotland’s canals, lochs and coastal waters.
