The Waterways Trust

The Waterways Trust Scotland

Our priorities in Scotland are:

Activity

To provide opportunities for adults, young people and children to participate in water and land based outdoor activities and to improve access to the canals for all communities.

Visibility

To create innovative, attractive, thought provoking and inclusive areas along the Forth and Clyde and Union Canals through the use of art, lighting and sculpture.

Conservation & Environment

The Waterways Trust Scotland will strive to conserve and enhance Scotland's inland waterways to achieve sustainable quality of life improvements for people, communities, the environment and wildlife.

Education

The Waterways Trust Scotland is developing education programmes through schools targeting water safety and working to bring a better appreciation of the waterways to young people, children and communities through educational resources, interpretation and heritage information.

We form partnerships with individuals, communities and organisations to realise sustainable benefits for all sectors of the community in terms of recreation, education, conservation, as well as social and economic welfare. We are determined to be open, accessible, socially inclusive and welcoming, and to ensure that all the work of The Trust is marked by the highest standards of quality and professionalism.

The Scottish Canals include the Forth and Clyde, Union, Crinan, Caledonian and Monklands. For more information on Scotland's canals visit: www.scottishcanals.co.uk, www.waterscape.com or www.thefalkirkwheel.co.uk.
