Save Sculptor Appeal
The Friends of the National Waterways Museum Stoke Bruerne have launched an appeal to save the historic narrowboat Sculptor from sinking.
£20,000 is needed to undertake urgent repair work to make the craft watertight and ensure its future.
Sculptor is currently moored outside the National Waterways Museum Stoke Bruerne on the Grand Union Canal. Over the years many hundreds of people have boarded the craft to see at first hand the cramped conditions of the boatman's cabin and she has been a familiar visitor at numerous events across the waterway network.
Today this fine boat is unable to move because of the poor condition of her hull and the fear of sinking.
Sculptor's hull urgently needs completely re-bottoming (or planking). Worn rivets in the rubbing strakes on the lower hull needs to be replaced and plating behind the knees of the hull needs to be doubled or replaced.
