Droitwich Canals Restoration
The Waterways Trust is working with British Waterways, Wychavon District Council, Worcestershire County Council and Droitwich Canals Trust to restore the two canals that run through the town, the Barge Canal and the Junction Canal.
Through this conservation-led £11 million restoration project, the link between the River Severn and the Birmingham & Worcester Canal will be reinstated for the first time in 65 years.
The restoration will:
- Create a 21-mile canal loop and linear park - the only loop in Europe that can be completed in a long weekend, a major attraction for tourists
- Create new walking and cycling routes, picnic sites, play areas and fishing spots.
- Generate over 320,000 new visits to the area within five years with an additional spend of £2.75 million per annum in the local economy
- Conserve 40 heritage structures
- Create new habitats for wildlife
| So far we have raised £812,685 towards our £1 million target! |
