Celebrate Dalriada
The three year long Dalriada project which aims to promote the natural and cultural heritage of Mid Argyll around the Crinan Canal, Knapdale and Kilmartin Glen, will conclude this summer with a month-long series of events celebrating the region.
Key achievements over the past three years include:

- 10 new heritage routes created
- 10 new interpretation hubs
- 2 new podcasts developed to tell the stories of the Crinan Canal and Kilmartin Glen
- Creation of new footpaths linking the heritage sites from Carnassiere to Cairnbaan
- Surveying, recording and restoring graveyards at Kilmichael and Kilmartin
- Black grouse conservation work at three locations
- Wildlife surveys
- Removal of invasive plants such as rhododendron at Achnamara allowing regeneration of native species
- Excavation and surveys of various sites in the region uncovering rare glass beads and evidence of metal-working
- Publication of booklet documenting stories collated through the Community History project and exhibition of artwork
The project team are in the process of installing new interpretation elements including audio visual podcast guides for some of the walks.
There will be a variety of celebration events during July to showcase the wonderful heritage of the region, including a fabulous water festival on the Crinan Canal. [Download Events Programme PDF 553KB]
