The Waterways Trust 10 years of enriching people's lives through waterways

Building Bridges

The Waterways Trust, Fairbridge North Manchester and British Waterways, supported by the National Lottery through the Heritage Lottery Fund, are helping young people in the north-west to discover more about the history of their local canal.

Following a number of heritage research days, including a trip to the Rochdale Canal and visit to the National Waterways Museum Ellesmere Port, the participants are now working with artists Paul Pickford and Brian Raymond to produce heritage themed designs for a piece of artwork which will be installed next to the Rochdale Canal in Littleborough.

The project is helping to build awareness of the canal as a valuable piece of local heritage and encourage greater involvement of young people in our waterways. Once installed, the art work will also enhance the environment around this stretch of the canal .
