Improved Learning


Ellesmere Port informal learning projectTogether with West Cheshire College we are using waterways to open up new learning opportunities for people living in the Ellesmere Port area. Read more about the informal learning project.

 

 

Environment & Heritage


Auchinstarry Basin Friends plantingAn environmental improvement project at Auchinstarry Canal Basin on the Forth & Clyde Canal, near Kilsyth.

As well as fundraising, we have involved school groups, people with mental health problems and the local community who have helped create the planting scheme and artwork to add colour and interest to the site.

We have also established a Friends groups to ensure the sustainability of the nature trail and gardens. Discover more about how we have transformed this barren landscape into a focal point for visitors and the local community.

Stronger Communities


Rochdale Canal Festival canoeingOur annual week-long Rochdale Canal Festival involves communities from Manchester, Oldham, Calderdale and Rochdale. Working with a range of public and private partners we have established a popular event to showcase the canal and encourage the local communities to experience the waterway.

Environmental initiatives, water-based activities, guided walks and cycle rides all help to instil a sense of pride and ownership amongst the local population. Find out more about this community festival.

 

Improved Health


Birmingham Heartlands Canal Ring mapIn the largest initiative of its kind, we are working with Birmingham Heartlands Primary Care Trust to develop the Birmingham Heartlands Canal Ring into a resource to improve community fitness and well-being. Discover more about this innovative project.

 

 

Regeneration

Droitwich Canals Barge Lock restorationOne of the most significant waterway restoration projects in the West Midlands. As part of the Droitwich Canals Partnership, we raised nearly £500,000 for the restoration of the town's two historic canals.

By securing public involvement through our arts and interpretation projects and public appeal, we have helped ensure local residents feel empowered and part of the restoration scheme. Find out more about our achievements.
