Return of week-long free Rochdale Canal festival
A walking, biking, wildlife-watching, canoeing, angling, boating, eating, relaxing week of fun!
The fourth annual Rochdale Canal Festival will get underway with a mini-festival at Miles Platting, Manchester 12noon – 4pm, Saturday 24 July at Royal Basin (adjacent to Victoria Mill). The event which is hosted by Adactus Housing, showcases a range of activities that people living along and near the Rochdale Canal can expect to see and take part in over the coming week. Visitors to Royal Basin will be able to have a go at arts & crafts activities, try their hand at angling or just enjoy the refreshments on offer. The free week-long Rochdale Canal Festival runs from Saturday 24 July to Sunday 1 August and covers the length of the canal from Calderdale to Manchester. Lucy Rogers, Rochdale Canal Development Manager at The Waterways Trust, said: “This year’s festival promises to be a walking, biking, wildlife-watching, canoeing, angling, boating, eating and relaxing week of fun! All activities and events are free of charge, providing the perfect opportunity for people living near the Rochdale Canal to come along and discover what the waterway has to offer them. “This is the fourth annual Rochdale Canal Festival and we are delighted to see how much it has grown in popularity. I would like to thank all our partners and funders for their help in putting on the festival and look forward to welcoming as many people as possible from the area to the festival and canal.” A full listing of all events, which are free of charge, can be downloaded from www.thewaterwaystrust.org.uk The Rochdale Canal Festival is organised by The Waterways Trust, British Waterways, Rochdale Council, Manchester City Council, Oldham Council, Calderdale Council and the Rochdale Canal Society. Funding has been made available through the South Pennines LEADER programme (Rural Development Programme for England), which is jointly funded through Defra and the European Union, and is managed by Yorkshire Forward in the Yorkshire and Humber Region, the Environment Agency, Oldham Council and the Lottery.
