The Waterways Trust 10 years of enriching people's lives through waterways

£86,000 for 37 projects along the River Thames

37 projects which care for, enhance and increase the use of the River Thames are benefiting from over £86,000 in grants from leading waterways charity, The Waterways Trust, thanks to generous donations from its supporters.

The Waterways Trust’s Thames Appeal is supported by the Environment Agency and provides grants for environmental, activity, education and access projects on and near the River Thames to encourage more people to make use of this magnificent waterway.

Joanne Darlington, Head of (Development England & Wales) for The Waterways Trust, said, “The River Thames has a special place in many people’s hearts and it is thanks to the generosity of our supporters that we can fund so many schemes which use the river to enrich people’s lives by enhancing the natural environment, improving access and raising awareness of the Thames from Teddington to Cricklade.

“We have been raising money for the upper reaches of the River Thames since 2002, and it is fantastic that we are be able to continue supporting the work of organisations both large and small to care for and promote England’s best known river so more people can enjoy it.”

Samantha Holland at the Environment Agency said, “We are pleased to be working with The Waterways Trust to run the Thames Appeal. Lots of people who use the River Thames value what it has to offer and want to put something back. This scheme provides valuable funding that can also help smaller community groups and clubs make local improvements.”
