£1 million project to help Falkirk young people get active

On Monday 6 April Scotland’s leading inland waterway charity, The Waterways Trust Scotland and Falkirk Council opened a brand new outdoor activity centre on the bank of the Union Canal, giving young people in the region the opportunity to get out and get active.

Falkirk East MSP Cathy Peattie said: "This is a very welcome addition to the sporting facilities available to families in this area. I am sure it will be very popular, and it's great to have it on our doorsteps, making the most of our local assets. This will make use the canal more accessible and enhance people's appreciation of our local waterways."

Karen Moore, Development Director for The Waterways Trust Scotland, said: “From canoeing to cycling; rock-climbing to angling, Action Outdoors will give people of all ages the opportunity to try out new sports and meet new people.

“The Waterways Trust Scotland runs a number of projects across the country to encourage people of all ages and abilities to make use of the Lowland Canals to improve their health and fitness and also to learn more about the natural environment. This new outdoor activity centre is part of a £1 million project which aims to make the most of the facilities that we have on our doorstep – the canals, the towpaths and the natural environment, and will make a real difference to people in the area.”
