Success for Stroud!

People living in Stroud and supporters of the Cotswold Canals voted in their droves, helping to bag £60,000 for the restoration project.

The restoration of the Cotswolds Canals was selected by ITV's People's Millions Lottery programme to face a public vote on Wednesday 29 June. Thanks to this win, the Cotswold Canals Partnership will be able to create a heritage trail and improve the towpath alongside the canal creating better access to Stroud town centre.

Kim Chester, Development Manager for The Waterways Trust, said: "We are absolutely delighted and would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who has helped us - project supporters who took part in the filming day, the Highways Agency for the use of alert signs to promote the project and to everyone who voted for us.

"This win shows just how much the restoration of the canal means to people. The improvements will help to provide better walking routes to and from the town centre and the heritage trail will help to bring Stroud's amazing history to life."
