Help Stroud's canal win £60,000
Stroud is in with the chance of winning £60,000 to improve the
towpath alongside the historic canals, providing better walking
routes to and from the town.
The restoration of the Cotswolds Canals has been
selected by ITV's People's Millions Lottery programme to face a
public vote with the winner receiving £60,000 for their
project.
Your help is needed! The people behind the restoration of
Cotswolds Canals need as many people as possible to join in with
the filming of the project on Wednesday 8
June.
Kim Chester, Development Manager, explains: "People's Millions
are coming to film the project and what we want to do with the
money if we are successful. We know the restoration of the canal is
really popular and we need as many people as possible to come along
and show the producers, and the general public across the region
when the film is shown on TV, just how much it really means.
The funding will pay for new towpaths which will link up
national trails around the Cotswolds with the town, attracting more
visitors to the shops and cafes in the town. The improvements will
provide better and safer pathways for runners, cyclists and
families with young children.
Kim continues: "The money will also help to create a heritage
trail. Podcasts of people talking about their life living and
working alongside the canal will help bring Stroud's amazing
history to life. People walking along the refurbished towpath will
be able to download the podcasts and listen to them as they enjoy
their walk, discovering the real Stroud."
Anyone interested in taking part in the filming should come to
the Ocean on the canal, just behind the Stonehouse Court
Hotel at midday on Wednesday 8 June.
