Stoke Bruerne (formerly the Canal Museum)

Designated as an Outstanding ColectionHoused in a restored corn mill beside the Grand Union Canal in the beautiful village of Stoke Bruerne, Northamptonshire, the National Waterways Museum Stoke Bruerne provides the focal point of a great day out for families and canal enthusiasts. Working models, videos, pictorial and three dimensional displays bring to life the unique 200 year old story of our waterway transport system, complemented by the living canal outside with its flight of locks and Blisworth Tunnel.

The museum reveals the amazing feats of engineering that crated Britain's original waterways. Visitors can also now enjoy a cup of coffee whilst watching the boats go by in the museum's new waterside café. School and educational visits are welcome; the museum has specialist staff who can assist teachers and students with waterway projects. The museum also has its own dedicated school/ activity room and runs a number of waterways craft courses, including narrowboat decoration and fender-making, throughout the year.

The Museum shop has a comprehensive range of canal books and also sells a range of interesting and high-quality waterway products including painted canal-ware, guides, maps, gifts and souvenirs.
