Brunel Bridge, London
We are helping to restore one of the few examples of Isambard
Kingdom Brunel's work in London.
The bridge, which lay hidden for decades beneath the faccade of
a later bridge, was discovered during redevelopment work around
Paddington.
Bringing our fundraising and project development skills to the
partnership, we are working with British Waterways, English
Heritage and Westminster City Council to restore and re-locate the
bridge to Stone Wharf Gardens in Paddington.
As well as reinstating a piece of engineering history, the
bridge will create much needed access for walkers and cyclists from
the busy Harrow road to the Grand Union Canal.
The bridge, which dates from 1838, was hidden for decades within
a modern brick road bridge. Dismantled in 2004, it is now stored in
English Heritage's yard in Portsmouth.
