Burnley
Our Burnley Canal Communities Project is a two-year project that
aims to get more people interested, involved, and excited by the
Burnley Canal.
Get involved!
We've got lots of exciting activities, volunteering
opportunities, and events for you to take part in....
Become an Active Volunteer
Every first Sunday of the month an Active
Volunteer activity takes place. You can learn new skills, meet new
people, and help care for the canal by helping to undertake a range
of conservation tasks. It is a great way to get active and give
something back to the community.
Family Arts & Crafts
Watch out for our Family Arts & Crafts sessions in the
Libraries, Chai Centre, and other locations across Burnley town
during February half term and
Easter. Led by a professional artist, the
activities all link to the heritage of the canal, so you can sfind
out more about your home town.
School Groups
We will be working with several schools across the town and
encouraging pupils to learn about the amazing heritage on their
doorstep. During February, Year 1 pupils at Reedley School will
spend seven weeks learning about the canal, its history and how it
helped bring fortunes to northern England.
Learn & Walk sessions
The Lancashire Library Service will be hosting a series of local
history sessions and walks linked to the canal, and the history of
the town. Check out your local library or keep coming back to this
page for more information.
Canal Festival
Over the weekend of 15th & 16th September
we'll be holding the first annual Burnley Canal Festival. With live
music and a host of free family events, there will be something for
everyone. Watch this space for further details.
