Wildside Activity Centre, Wolverhampton
Wildside Activity Centre in Wolverhampton used funding from The Waterways Trust's Small Grant Scheme to clear out its ponds which are used for education programmes.
The ponds, which provide habitats for many different species of plants, minibeasts and aquatic creatures, had become overrun with a highly invasive plant species which was also threatening the adjacent canal. With the grant, staff at the urban environmental centre have been able to re-build the ponds using a wood block building system lined with sand and a good quality liner. The new design also makes the ponds accessible to as many people as possible, helping to improve lessons for visiting children.
