The work of The Waterways Trust spans education and learning, community activity, the natural environment, conservation of our heritage, restoration and regeneration. Through our projects on the waterways and at our three museums, we are enabling people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds to learn new skills, to understand, value and care for their local waterway and to get involved in healthy activity.

As a partner in waterway regeneration schemes, we are helping to use waterway restoration as a catalyst for social, economic and environmental renewal in urban and rural areas. Together with our partners we are working to unlock the benefits that they offer for present and future generations and to secure their continuing renaissance.

The National Waterways Museum at Ellesmere Port, Waterways Museum at Gloucester Docks and Canal Museum at Stoke Bruerne house the designated inland waterways collection and archive. They interpret the story of our canals, providing centres for education and learning and destinations for visitors to the waterways. All three museums make an important contribution to the local visitor economy and, at Ellesmere Port and Gloucester Docks, are central to the regeneration of these locations.
