Flood Risk Management
This cateogry will recognise flood risk management schemes that
have successfully combined the provision of security against flood
risk with enhanced environmental sustainability and local economic,
social and physical development.
Your project should demonstrate how it has integrated with
and improved the natural environment, reduced environmental
impact of flooding and created new habitats.
A scheme situated in the built environment should demonstrate
how it has integrated with the existing urban fabric, for example
through sympathetic use of materials and styles, complementing
existing land uses as well as flood resilient design.
The scheme must use the measures outlined above to enhance
enjoyment and accessibility of the waterways, for example by
enabling leisure and tourism opportunities.
The project may have been accompanied by non-physical measures
such as flood forecasting and campaigns to raise awareness of flood
risk.
There may be innovative use of demountable defences.
The project will have developed in response to social as well as
economic imperatives for flood risk management, and will have used
innovative methods to gain added value from its funding package to
address a funding gap.
