Community

This award will recognise a project, scheme or initiative inspired and led by the local community that meets a need identified from within this community

Entries should show how the requirements and demography of the local population has been considered and how the project has resulted in direct benefit to local people by raising community spirit and improving their quality of life.

The panel will look for evidence that projects or schemes

  • engage the wider community (i.e. boards, consultation, surveys, informal drop-ins etc)
  • respond to local needs and contribute to raising community spirit
  • ensure they are accountable to the local community (i.e. evaluations, resident boards etc)
  • build the capacity of local people to determine their own lives (i.e. skills training, mentoring of residents to become community leaders, expanding job opportunities etc)
  • foster social cohesion in the community.
