Chairs for Waterway Partnerships
About the role
This is a new role in a new organisation and we are looking for
five remarkable people to help take us forward over the next three
years.
Reporting to the Charity Trustees and Council, you will be the
lead ambassador for your Local Waterways Partnership, shaping the
future of waterways in your area.
The Waterways Partnerships will develop an overarching vision
for their waterways. Leading and inspiring your Partnership, you
will work with the waterway managers to develop strategies and
plans to encourage more people to use and get involved with their
local waterway.
You will champion the interests of waterways to local political,
business and voluntary sector leaders and organisations and help to
attract new resources and funding to maintain and improve the
waterways.
The roles are voluntary with expenses paid and will involve
approximately 3-5 days a month of your time.
About you
We are looking for five individuals with exceptional skills. As
well as outstanding leadership qualities, you will be a confident
networker, communicator and strategic thinker. You will have the
confidence and gravitas to be influential at all levels. You will
be experienced in working in complex partnerships covering the
public, private and voluntary sectors and have experience of
working with large organisations.
You might already be involved with a charity, or working in
politics or the commercial sector. Whatever your background, you'll
have an impressive track record at a senior level and be more than
ready to help shape the future of the new waterways charity.
About the new waterways charity
Britain's 200-year old network of historic canals, rivers and
docks attract over 13 million people each year for walking,
cycling, angling, boating or simply the peace and quiet.
In April 2012 the waterways that British Waterways cares for and
maintains in England and Wales will become part of a New Waterways
Charity. The Waterways Trust will merge its operations with
the new waterways charity when it is launched.
The move will create one of the largest charities in the country
and is intended to improve the long-term financial sustainability
of the nation's waterways and give a greater role to their users
and stakeholders.
This exciting new charity will attract greater investment and
give local people a greater role in how their waterways are
run.
